Do I need to take the placement assessment?

Transfer students who do not receive transfer credits for the first- level of English 和/or 数学ematics (Pre-Calculus or Calculus) are required to take the placement assessment. It is in your best interest to take your placement assessment(s) as soon as possible in order to register early 和 for the appropriate courses.

How long is the placement assessment?

The English placement assessment is approximately 1 hour. You are required to write an essay on selected topics - 50 minutes 和 complete a survey - approximately 20 minutes. The 数学 placement assessment is approximately 2 hours 和 is divided into three sections: Basic Algebra (25 problems, 30分钟), 高级代数(25题, 30 minutes) 和 Trigonometry (30 problems, 45分钟). Can I be exempt from taking the placement assessment?

Transfer students who have taken the Advanced Placement Exam (AP) 和/or International Baccalaureate (IB) course during high school 和 meet NJIT's criteria are eligible to be exempt from taking the placement assessment. 当然, receipt of transfer credit from a previous college/university for the appropriate first-level 数学和 English course will make you eligible for exemption.
